Carlos Suarez & Jessica Quiles Workshop
Join us for a dynamic and in-depth salsa workshop led by the incredible Jessica Quiles, and Houston-based Carlos Suarez! Whether you’re looking to sharpen your fundamentals or challenge yourself with more rigourous material, this session is designed to elevate your dancing with style, technique, and connection.
Hour 1: Footwork, Body Movement & Styling (Leads & Follows)
This first hour focuses on individual technique—because clean, expressive movement starts with your own body awareness.
What to expect:
Foundational and dynamic footwork drills to improve timing, balance, and rhythm.
Body movement techniques to help you unlock fluidity in your torso, hips, and shoulders.
Styling for both Leads & Follows – Learn how to add personality, musicality, and intention to your movement without interrupting the flow of partnerwork.
Special focus on clarity and precision, so your solo movement strengthens your ability to connect in partner dancing.
This is for dancers of intermediate level and above who want to develop stronger individual expression and presence on the dance floor.
🕑 Hour 2: Intricate Patterns & Execution
Now that your foundation is warmed up, it’s time to get into the mechanics of partnerwork.
What to expect:
Intricate turn patterns that challenge your coordination, memory, and timing.
Techniques for seamless transitions between moves, including how to lead and follow with intention and clarity.
Connection drills to improve responsiveness and communication between partners.
Tips on musicality and when to apply styling within the context of the pattern—without sacrificing connection.
Breakdown of common “trouble spots” in execution and how to troubleshoot them on the fly.
This session emphasizes not just learning patterns, but dancing them well—fluidly, confidently, and musically.
🎯 Who is this for?
Intermediate and above dancers who are ready to refine their skills, push their creativity, and explore new ways to move with precision and style—both solo and in partnerwork.
